Historic Restorations

MEB architects have restored almost a dozen significant historical estates and homes.  The projects have included some of the most prominent families and their architects in Lake Forest and on the North Shore of Illinois in the early 20th century.

We have been blessed to work on David Adler’s Mandel Residence, Laurance H. Armour Residence “Two Gables”, the Wilson and Nobel Judah coach houses, and finally the Kersey Coates Reed Residence, which architectural historians consider one of his most significant works. Other commissions have been homes designed by other note-worthy architects from the early 20th century such as H.T. Lindeberg, Stanley Anderson, and Edwin Hill Clark. Finally, we have been recently blessed to be involved with two Howard Van Doren Shaw residences, the most notable is “Four Winds”.

MEB Architects painstakingly researches the home, architect, and all relevant architectural documents with the goal to restore, refresh, and once again make the home relevant for today’s family and future generations.

“Working on significant historic homes has given MEB Architects the eye and the passion for the extraordinary and a yearning for a time in architecture worth remembering.”
